Oh Patricia! I cannot tell you how much I love this! Or how much I feel this! At Bible study yesterday, the question was asked, “What is one thing you feel inadequate about in your Christian walk?” My answer, “Knowing whether the Lord is speaking to me, or if it’s just my own thoughts.” So often I cannot discern. And, there have been times when I have responded to what I feel He has been asking me, and the outcome is so far away from what I expected it would be. I recently blogged about this very experience, “When The Mountains Don’t Move”. God’s timing is perfect!! I was just reminiscing with a dear friend about a decision we felt called to make to start a homeschool co-op in Savannah about 13 years ago. We both felt God calling us & knew there was a need, but felt totally inadequate.. our biggest concern was that we would start well, but not finish it well with consistency. We decided we needed God to confirm that He was calling us, so we decided we would pray & ask God specifically to show us through scripture if it was definitely His will. God spoke to me in a crazy way…. at choir practice and I began to cry. I went home & called my friend & she said that was it. I HAD to know it wasn’t just a coincidence, so I suggested we ask God to confirm it (without us looking for it) again. The very next morning as I opened my devotional, there was the scripture. It was the following scripture and even more miraculous… it was typed on the top of a Christmas song originally!!!
“Then David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for the Lord God, even my God, is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.”
‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭28:20
God is so faithful!!! He put that co-op together in ways we could never have imagined. My family moved after a couple of years, but it’s still going strong with 200+ students every year!! Oh, what a God we serve that allows imperfect US to join Him in His work!!!!

When I link up, I go to the previous post, and I read it. Today’s title made me catch my breath, and I’m so glad you posted this. Thank you. Yes, it is not God I doubt – it is my own ability to hear Him correctly because of my past, because of everything you mentioned here. What a timely word, and exactly the encouragement I needed today to press in. Grace for our weakness. Understanding that He made us from the dust. Scary decisions, but what a sweet, good God to send another dose of reassurance when I feel like I should just be marching forward in faith. Again, thank you. <3

I love the story of Gideon- it always reassures me that God can use people who are fearful and have moments of doubt. I agree, especially when we’re being called to something scary, we really need that extra reassurance. I know for me it’s not usually because I’m doubting God; it’s more than I’m doubting whether I’ve heard him correctly. Glad to be your neighbour today at Coffee For Your Heart.
