What Big Eyes God Has! {Recharge Wednesday LINKUP}

September 5, 2018 by Karen Friday

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This is for you.

The girl who feels invisible. A mom surrounded by loneliness. The woman who wonders if anyone cares. Every heart struggling with meaning in life.

Those touched by hopelessness. Souls caught in the pit of despair. The lost who don’t believe they can be found.

To everyone who questions God’s existence or love.

Or, if you wonder. Is God there? Does He know? Does He see?

Little Red Riding Hood’s wolf in disguise possessed big eyes. “The better to see you with,” he said. But his eyes don’t compare to the Lord Jehovah’s eyes which are vast, keen, and aware.

The God Who Sees

We find a story of the God who sees in Genesis 16. Childless, Sarai devises a plan for her servant Hagar to conceive her husband’s child. Hagar obliges, but Sarai soon becomes jealous and regrets her scheme. So, she deals harshly with Hagar.

Hagar flees the scene. Alone in the wilderness, she encounters an angel of the Lord who tells her she will bear a son, her offspring will be multiplied, and to return and submit to her mistress.

Within this narrative, Hagar recognized a powerful truth about God. He’s a God who sees.

“So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, ‘You are a God of seeing,’ for she said, ‘Truly here I have seen him who looks after me’” Genesis 16:13 ESV.

In the middle of the wilderness, Hagar saw the God who looked after her.

The Lord Jehovah finds us in the middle of our wilderness to tenderly look after us. Click To Tweet

God’s Eyes

“For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth so that He may support those whose heart is completely His” 2 Chronicles 16:9a AMP.

God’s eyesight is omnipresent. To and fro references a constant movement, backward and forward, side to side (Google).

There’s no place to escape God’s sight. He found Hagar in her wilderness and finds us in our barren places. Click To Tweet

And the Lord’s eyes set their sights on a mission to support us. He undergirds us in all of life’s plans and ordeals. Our support comes from the eyes and heart of the Almighty. Especially in those instances when we flee the scene because the ordeal is too much to handle.

We find comfort in the fact that God sees. The Lord is everywhere—all the time. He sees us. His eyes are in a continual state of motion. He’s the God who sees me and sees you.

The Lord’s Eyes Search

Like Sarai, when I grow weary waiting on God, I often devise my own plan or scheme. And I take matters into my own hands—more than I care to admit. Will I ever learn? Important life decisions belong in the hands of a higher power.

God’s eyes search with specific intent to support those with hearts completely His. Belonging wholly to the Holy One. Click To Tweet

A complete heart for God = downright, unmitigated, untempered, and utter devotion to Him over people and things.

God cares for us and wants our hearts to be completely His. He wants to devise our life’s plans.

The heavenly Father desires that we submit to His will, expect Him to be visible in our lonely places, give Him authority to reign supreme, and find our hope in Christ alone.

God:

  • Sees me.
  • Finds me.
  • Looks after me.
  • Stays with me.
  • Gives me life purpose.
  • Gives me hope.

Is there a time you knew God saw you in the wilderness and took care of you? Share in the comments.

I love the way Scripture gives us pictures of God that help us to understand Him while also making us realize how completely “other” He is!

Yes, Michele! What a comfort to know and continue to discover God’s complete character. He’s matchless!

Karen, I love that story of God revealing Himself as one who see us and our trouble. And I can be like Sarah too, devising my own plans when God seems slow.

Me too, Debbie. As I confessed, I so often try to take matters into my own hands which always prove too small for the task. God’s hands are mighty and His eyes aware of how to handle each life event perfectly. 🙂

This story from Scripture always moves me, Karen. I’m so glad you shared it and the very clear message of how our God is with us, sees us and is meeting our every need. Thanks for this reminder!

It is a “clear” message of how God sees us and meets every need, Beth. I’m so grateful the Lord Jehovah’s eyes are vast, keen, and aware.

When my severely disabled daughter graduated high school in May, I was really grieving her future – no college, no job, no wedding – as everyone else was brimming with excitement. At the ceremony, my daughter with no honors or awards got the biggest ovation of the night. The clapping when on and on. I wept with gratitude for a God who saw my pain and knew just what I needed to bring me joy. laurensparks.net

Lauren, what a powerful story and the sweetest testimony about our God who saw you and knew what you needed, and supported you in that moment. How special! Thanks for sharing.

I love that God sees. There may have been times in my life when I wasn’t thrilled with that. 🙂 I remember a hymn at church “There’s an all-seeing eye watching you”. It scared us as kids. But as an adult, I’m SO grateful that his eyes are always on me, caring for me, loving me.

Lisa, that makes perfect sense of how the thought (hymn) was scary as a child. Yes! So grateful to think about how God sees us and finds us in the wilderness and looks after us and supports us.
