The week is here!
She Soars Women’s Conference 2019 is this Saturday, April 27th, at Prayer and Praise Christian Fellowship in Woodstock, GA.
During Jesus’ ministry in Galilee and Judea, Jews followed Him everywhere. Some were curious. Others recognized the long-awaited Messiah had come.
Most Jewish leaders were angry.
He was in Jerusalem this time and had just challenged the leaders who wanted to stone an adulterous woman to death, according to the Levitical Law (Lev. 20:10). Jesus was becoming a huge problem for them, and so they sought ways to incriminate our Lord. The conversation between the leaders and Jesus (found on John 7 and 8) is fascinating.
After talking to the leaders, He addressed those in the crowd who had put their faith in Him:
To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:31-36 – NIV)
I can close my eyes and imagine the faces of those humble men and women who, oppressed by Rome and longing for the 700-year-old Promise to come deliver them, presented various reactions to His words.
Some were confused…
Others were filled with hope…
Many did not understand it fully but sensed in their spirit that they were hearing from God Himself.
SET FREE
Those words were music to their ears.
Captive Israel… free from Babylon and yet, bound to their sin and endless rituals and laws.
Captive to legalism.
Captive to fear.
Captive.
I believe so many Christians live much like the Jews that followed Christ during His three-year ministry. They heard the words, believed the Man, even pledged to follow Him, and yet, are yet to be truly SET FREE.
