He climbed up the mountain of Nebo, beside the plains of Moab. His tired feet and aging body, straining at each step. I imagine the proximity of the Promise and the trust in the Covenant were the fuel that propelled him to move forward to the top of the mountain… after 40 years of wandering and waiting. “Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you Continue Reading
Trusting God in Our Loneliness {Atlanta Journal Constitution}
It was Friday night. I absently stared at the television, feeling lonely. Looking through my phone book, I knew that the options were not good. The friends who would be available on a Friday night would quickly offer me a tour back into a life that didn’t appeal to me anymore. My new friends were all busy with their husbands, boyfriends or family. It was me, my TV and a bible that I knew very little about. I glanced down and picked it up. I was 25 years old and a new Christian. My weekends Continue Reading
God’s Boundaries for Our Trials {Atlanta Journal Constitution Column}
I aimed my phone camera at my feet, and snapped the picture at the moment the first wave touched my toes. I stood there for a moment, shivering as another wave brought the icy waters all the way to my heels. I moved the camera and took another picture, this time, showing the perfect border that the foam of a new wave created on the wet sand. The boundaries of the ocean. Cancer-Free!
Update As many of you know, my yearly cancer check up was inconclusive last November. I had only two more annual CT scans before the doctor would release me for good, when a "spot" was found in my kidney, close to the place where they removed a cancerous tumor from my left kidney in April 2012. The doctor said it could just be surgery residue, but they couldn't confirm it for sure. Therefore we embarked on a 5-month wait until the next scan. I wrote about it on this blog: "The Big C - In God's Continue Reading
